On 28th June 2025, Polar Puffs & Cakes proudly stood side by side with runners, volunteers, and supporters at the annual Unlabelled Run. This meaningful event, held in support of second chances and community reintegration, saw people from all walks of life coming together to take a stand against stigma and labels.
We were honoured to be a part of this inspiring initiative. Our team provided refreshments to fuel the volunteers throughout the day. From our Chairman, Dr Chan Kok Yew, to our dedicated colleagues, several members of our Polar family also laced up their running shoes to join the event. Their participation reflected our shared belief in walking (or running) the journey together with those who deserve another shot at life.
About the Unlabelled Run
Organised annually, the Unlabelled Run brings together individuals, families, and organisations in a movement to shed the labels often associated with former offenders and those who have struggled in life. The run serves as a symbolic and physical act of embracing hope, acceptance and inclusion. Through participation, individuals show their support for giving people the opportunity to start anew, free from prejudice.
About the Organiser – The New Charis Mission
The New Charis Mission (TNCM), the organiser behind the Unlabelled Run, is a non-profit organisation known for its transformative outreach efforts. Committed to changing lives, TNCM supports various groups including ex-offenders, at-risk youth, the elderly, and those in recovery. Its programmes are grounded in compassion and community, encouraging personal development, healing, and practical rehabilitation. TNCM’s work in organising the Unlabelled Run reflects its dedication to helping people break free from the past and move forward with dignity and purpose.
How Polar Puffs & Cakes participated
We believe in the power of the community and the importance of second chances. That is why we were delighted to provide an assortment of refreshments for all Unlabelled Run volunteers. A warm puff or a sweet treat can go a long way in re-energising someone and we were glad to offer that comfort during the event.
Beyond the treats, our presence was felt on the running track, too. A team of Polar staff participated in the run itself. Their involvement represents more than just personal health; it symbolises unity and standing in solidarity with the cause. Our Chairman, who is part of the organising committee, participated in the 10km and 5km flag off alongside Mayor Denise Phua and Guest of Honour Minister Tan See Leng.
A cause close to our hearts
Our involvement in the Unlabelled Run is a natural extension of what we already do. As one of the pioneer employee partners of the Yellow Ribbon Project, we have been offering employment and on-the-job training to ex-offenders at our New Hope Factory. We do not just believe in giving second chances. Rather, we act on it.
By providing opportunities to those seeking a fresh start, we create an environment where individuals are treated with dignity and supported as they rebuild their lives. The training they receive is practical and empowering, allowing them to gain valuable skills and experience that will carry them forward in life.
For us at Polar Puffs & Cakes, taking part in the Unlabelled Run is not just a once-a-year activity. It is part of an ongoing journey to make a difference, no matter how big or small in the lives of others. Whether through employment, encouragement or simply being present, we aim to be part of a more compassionate and inclusive community.
